Gelato offers a flexible pricing model with a free tier for new sellers and optional subscriptions for more advanced tools. There are no upfront costs to start, and you only pay for what you sell.

Pricing Breakdown

PlanMonthly PriceBest For
Free$0New sellers testing the platform
Gelato+$23.99/monthGrowing stores that want discounts and branding features
Personalization Studio$19/monthSellers offering custom gifts and personalized items
PlatinumCustomEnterprise-level brands with higher volume needs

Important notes:

  • All plans include access to the global network of print hubs
  • Gelato+ gives access to branded packaging, bulk discounts, and workflow tools
  • Personalization Studio helps automate custom designs and product creation
  • VAT, shipping, and product base costs are charged separately on each order

Compared to competitors, Gelato’s pricing structure is refreshingly transparent. There’s no need to calculate complicated platform fees, transaction costs, or forced upgrades just to unlock basic features. The free plan gives you full access to the core network, while premium tools are clearly separated and optional, which helps keep your profit margins intact as you grow.

Still, some sellers may feel pressure to upgrade just to access core branding features like packaging inserts. If you’re running a serious ecommerce brand, Gelato+ will likely become a “soft requirement,” not an option. This isn’t a problem in itself — but it’s something to factor into your recurring costs, especially if you’re scaling up or managing multiple stores.

Is Gelato Worth the Price?

Gelato provides excellent value if you’re selling globally and want to shorten delivery times while keeping overhead low.

Here’s how Gelato stacks up:

FeatureIncluded in Free Plan?Included in Gelato+?
Local Production
Branding Options
Personalization Tools✅ or $19 separately
AI Tools (Magic Mockups, Instant Collections)
Custom Inserts / Labels

Value really depends on how you’re using the platform. For a seasonal store or small product line, the free tier might be enough to handle operations smoothly without paying anything extra. But if you’re building a real brand — especially one that relies on packaging, marketing, or custom product variants — you’ll quickly outgrow the free tools.

What makes Gelato worth its price isn’t just production and shipping — it’s the time-saving software it layers on top. If you’re someone who spends hours creating mockups, tweaking prices, or duplicating listings, the paid plans offer tools that automate all of that. Those time savings can quickly outweigh the $20/month subscription fee.

If branding, speed, or personalization are key to your business, Gelato+ or Personalization Studio is worth it.

Product Catalog Overview

Gelato’s product selection isn’t as massive as Printify, but it’s focused and high-impact. It’s particularly strong in paper goods and giftable items where fast shipping matters.

Most Popular Categories

  • Wall Art – Posters, canvases, fine art prints
  • Stationery – Calendars, greeting cards, notebooks
  • Mugs & Drinkware – Ceramic and travel mugs
  • T-shirts & Apparel – Basic apparel, but more limited than Printful
  • Phone Cases & Accessories – For iPhone and Samsung

It’s best for:

  • Gifting niches (Mother’s Day, birthdays, photo gifts)
  • Interior decor (printable wall art, framed photography)
  • Seasonal sellers (calendars, holiday cards, Valentine’s mugs)

Gelato vs Printify vs Printful

PlatformBest ForKey StrengthMain Weakness
GelatoGlobal delivery & paper goodsFast local printing, sustainabilityNo phone support, variability in packaging
PrintifyBudget + product varietyLargest catalog, flexible pricingPrint quality varies by provider
PrintfulPremium brandingStrong packaging & qualityHigher base prices, fewer locations

If fast shipping and global coverage are your top priorities, Gelato wins. If you care more about product variety or branding, Printify or Printful may be better.

Delivery Times and Global Network

Gelato routes orders through 140+ production hubs in 32 countries, with delivery to over 200 regions worldwide. That means most orders are printed close to the customer — cutting down delivery delays and customs fees.

Delivery Stats

  • 87% of orders are produced and delivered within the same country
  • 99% are fulfilled within the same region
  • Most standard orders arrive in 4–6 days, with express options available

AI Tools & Seller Workflows

One of Gelato’s unique selling points is its workflow automation tools, designed to help sellers grow their catalog quickly and manage operations with less friction.

Highlighted Tools

  • Instant Collections – Bulk generate product listings with AI
  • Velocity Switch – Instantly migrate your existing Shopify or Etsy listings
  • Price Navigator – Analyze competitor pricing and set profitable prices
  • Magic Mockups – Auto-generate professional product images

These tools are perfect for sellers managing large inventories or launching new collections often. Instead of manually uploading designs one by one, these tools speed up the setup process dramatically.

Branding and Packaging Options

All orders on Gelato are white-labeled by default — your customers won’t see the Gelato name. However, branded packaging options like inserts and custom labels are only available on Gelato+.

Branding Options

FeatureFree PlanGelato+
White Label Packaging
Custom Inserts
Branded Labels
Packaging Consistency⚠️ Varies⚠️ Varies

Packaging can vary slightly by region due to the networked model, so always order test products if you’re building a strong brand experience.

If brand perception is a priority, Gelato+ becomes almost essential. While free-tier orders are plain and functional, the Gelato+ features let you inject more personality into your unboxing experience. Inserts, labels, and personalized messages make it easier to connect with customers and encourage repeat purchases.

That said, setup isn’t fully plug-and-play. You’ll need to manually upload branded assets and sometimes tweak formatting to ensure consistency across regions. There’s also no guarantee that every print partner will execute branding touches exactly the same way, so it’s worth investing time in sampling and spot-checking if presentation matters.

Shipping, Tracking & Support

Shipping Features

  • Choose between Standard, Economy, and Express options
  • Real-time shipping calculator provided before checkout
  • Delivery estimates and tracking numbers available for all orders

Support Experience

  • Live chat support 24/7 (but initial responses may be AI-driven)
  • No phone support, which may be limiting for high-volume sellers
  • Dedicated dashboard for issue reporting, reprints, or damaged items

Support is reliable but not personal. It’s best for sellers who are comfortable managing most issues through chat and ticket systems.

Returns, Taxes & Legal Considerations

  • Returns are not accepted by Gelato. As a seller, you define your own return policy.
  • Gelato does not provide a return address. All refund or replacement decisions are handled by you.
  • If a product is damaged, Gelato may issue a reprint or refund, but only after internal review.
  • VAT and IOSS are seller responsibilities. Gelato provides some guidance but recommends working with a tax advisor.

For sellers in the EU or UK, it’s important to understand local ecommerce laws regarding buyer’s remorse and custom goods. If you’re unsure, consult legal counsel.

Is Gelato Sustainable?

Yes — if reducing environmental impact matters to your business, Gelato is one of the most sustainable POD platforms available.

Sustainability Data

  • 67% carbon savings per order using local production
  • 3,445 km average shipping distance saved per order
  • 85% of orders are produced and delivered in the same country
  • Minimal packaging waste (though dependent on local print partners)

Gelato publishes an annual Sustainability Report, and their numbers back up the claim that local production can meaningfully reduce emissions — especially compared to centralized warehouses and overseas shipping.

Should You Use Gelato?

Use Gelato if you:

✅ Sell to international markets and want fast, reliable shipping
✅ Focus on gifting, personalization, or seasonal print products
✅ Need automation tools to scale your product catalog
✅ Want white-labeled products without managing inventory

Avoid Gelato if you:

❌ Require ultra-consistent packaging or color control
❌ Need phone support or high-touch customer service
❌ Operate on razor-thin profit margins with little room for reprints

Final Verdict

Gelato is a strong choice for ecommerce sellers prioritizing fast, local delivery and print-on-demand tools built to scale. Its workflow automation, solid product selection, and sustainability features set it apart from older platforms. It’s not perfect — especially if you want consistent branding or hands-on support — but it’s one of the best POD options for international sellers in 2026.

Most features are paid

You are unable to use the mockup generator or personalisation for free. The free plan only gives you one very basic mockup, which is virtually useless on its own. The fonts available on free plan are very limited. Ordering samples was a nightmare. There was an issue with delivery of some products but no messaging to say which ones. The chatbot spat out answers that had no relation to my queries, then kept answering with the same words whatever question was asked.
I had hoped trying out the free plan would at least be encouraging and give me a good incentive to go to a paid plan. But not so. I also found the product selection limited, if you aren't doing art prints. The process of designing and adding product templates is not as good as other POD places I have tried. UI could be better. If you are new to POD I would avoid their services. Unless you are selling printables.

great

I would have given them a full five star if it wasn't for the long wait for the item to arrive. I had one of my paintings printed to see how my art was reproduced and it was excellent. It was hard to tell between the original and the print in colour reproduction, it was beautiful

Ordered hoodies to have printed for my Etsy business. Got one for myself. They cancelled orders because they ran out of stock and the hoodie i ordered looked terrible. Very faded printing and the white looks purple. Not acceptable
